EDMONTON – Lehigh Cement today announced the opening of K Mill, the Edmonton plant’s state-of-the-art, high-efficiency vertical finishing mill. It will operate as the primary of the Edmonton plant’s four finishing mills, supporting increased efficiencies in production and operations year-round.
An event to celebrate the advancement of industry in Alberta was attended by business leaders, government representatives and industry partners.
“As an industry we’re heavily focused on reducing GHG emissions; the energy efficiency gained here as a result of the K Mill is one example of that”, says Michael McSweeney, President and CEO, Cement Association of Canada.
The $70 million project broke ground in October 2015, and the initial mill run completed just shy of two years later on September 25, 2017. K Mill increases the plant’s cement grinding capacity by 40% to help ensure reliable cement supply to customers in Alberta, and extending to the Territories, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and North Dakota.
“Lehigh Cement has a history of increased operating efficiencies and using the best technologies available to produce high-quality product”, says Chris Ward, President and CEO of Lehigh Hanson Canada Region. “Since 1956, our customers and advancing industry in Alberta have been at the centre of everything that we do”.
